Marie Louise Sorbac was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on March 15, 1959, to a French father and an Argentine mother. She studied at the Jean Mermoz Franco-Argentine Lycée and grew up with four siblings in a family shaped by three generations of collectors and decorators.
After completing her secondary education, she moved to France with the intention of enrolling at the École des Beaux-Arts. As the academic calendar did not allow her to do so immediately, she entered professional life without delay. Throughout her career, she held positions of responsibility in a variety of fields, including motor racing, the international and French development of luxury brands, leather goods, fragrance and designer furniture.
She worked alongside designers, artistic directors and entrepreneurs. These experiences gave her the opportunity to travel, observe and absorb. Each one brought something new and formative: shapes, colours, styles and scents. Over time, this rich personal and professional background led her towards expressing her creativity through sculpture
Around ten years ago, she began working with clay for the first time. After moving to Boulogne-Billancourt, where she now lives and works, she joined the city’s visual arts workshops. There, she gave form to her desire to create through encounters with a wide variety of materials: wire mesh, metal, wood, plaster and more.
Working with reinforcing steel that she bends herself, she creates figures and scenes with an almost linear quality, as though drawn directly into space. She also produces a bestiary from wire mesh, compressed by hand to give her animals volume, density and rounded forms. She works with natural materials as well, including vine shoots and wood, alongside recycled metal that she welds and combines with timber.
Drawing on the depth of her origins, she created a series of bulls, including Pablo: simple and pared back, pure and powerful in its presence, and cast in bronze.
